Dol Ammad - Ocean Dynamics album cover

I am definitely sure that the first thing that caught your eye was the number of musician in DOL AMMAD's line-up. Indeed, the band comprises a 14 member choir( 7 men - 7 women) apart from the classic guitar, bass and drum player. Among the long name list there is the guest appearance of Dc Cooper who lends his wonderful voice in the song Aquatic Majesty. Ocean Dynamics is the title of the band's second full-length album, that is released 2 years after the debut album Star Tales show the light of the day.

Thanassis Ligthbridge had the idea of merging electronic music with heavy metal and creating a personal experimental sound. Dol Ammad was born in 2003 featuring a 11-members choir. While the Tolkien lovers have already recognized the word Dol, that stands for the word tower the rest of the readers should note down that ammad means sillar/column in Palestinian. The best way to briefly describe DOL AMMAD's music genre is by using the term Electronica - Art - Metal. Electronic sounds have a leading role in Ocean Dynamics and merge perfectly with all the Metal elements giving birth to this original sound. In the influences-list we find the gurus of electronic music Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis when it comes to pompous instrumentations and the great deal of sound effects. The metal elements take the listener by surprise in the last part of the Thalassa Dominion quatrology were the fast guitar riffs and the almost drum blast-beats make a glorious entrance. After this track everything sounds impressive; Solaris is a fast version of Lucassen's compositions with the all-star project band called STAR ONE.
Lightbridge have succeed in bringing together two different music worlds (electronic and metal) and making them sound as one.  The band could have used a lead singer in order to move far from from the soundtrack-like format and come closer to the metal fan's perspective, but this a strictly personal opinion. Well, Aquatic Majesty, probably the best track of the album, comes to prove my former ratiocination because Dc Cooper's powerful voice fits like a glove in DOL AMMAD's music. Lava and Heart of the Sea are two electronic based tracks with a great deal of experimentation with strange sounds and weird melodies inspired by the powers of the sea. The compact performance of Alex Holzwarth (RHAPSODY, SIEGES EVEN) creates a solid rhythm section and brings in front some progressive metal influences.
The icing on the cake is the crystal clear sound production that balances the power of heavy metal and the melody of electronic music. This is an adventurous sound trip that I can assure you that you will be more than happy to take. Ocean Dynamics is an album that affirms the statement saying that heavy metal music is a living organism that is evolving and growing every day!
