For Water Or Blood

DIESTO was formed in Portland, Oregon, US playing a Stoner Doom Metal. The band has been out there since around 2000 releasing four albums prior to their new "For Water Or Blood", DIESTO's last album "High As The Sun" (well though title) was a great album that I had the pleasure listening to however, I found it to be more suitable for the so called experienced Doom Metal going Prog Metal fans. Yet, I still liked it. But let's check out what was brewed on "For Water Or Blood".
DIESTO plays strong riffs straight out of hell, there is no debut that DIESTO were able to muster the art of composing a decent Doom Metal riff. Their songwriting might generate awkward and long length tracks, yet nothing is tiring or boring. It does seem that DIESTO care for their gloominess with a spike of progression with a few classical directions, thus being able to capture attention with their long lengths. "Sirens" stands out as one of the best Doom tracks in the last couple years and a must have for any Stoner / Sludge / Doom Metal fan.
It appears that DIESTO did it again, it is not easy to freshen up the sound in a very narrow genre like Doom Metal, however DIESTO fulfilled the task, fifth album and it doesn't look like these guys are weakening. On the contrary they are becoming the BEHEMOTH of Doom Metal.
