Closer To Heaven
Danger Zone
DANGER ZONE is an Italian Melodic Hard Rock band. On their third full length album, they show that even in these modern times, there is still room for some old-school rocking. Every song on here, while catchy and filled with great guitar solos and vocals, seems like it could benefit from more of a Metal edge. The songs just feel like they are right on the cusp of breaking out into something more. I can just picture/hear in my head how much more full the songs could sound if there was some double bass on the drums and some faster guitar picking because they definitely have a slight Power Metal feel to them. The songs, as good as they are, just seem too safe. The band is clearly talented but there isn't anything on here that is going to blow the listener away. However, what is here, is well done.
This album definitely sounds like something that could be played on the radio back in the late 70's/early 80's. I think this is probably the first album I've listened to that would not annoy my non-Metal loving friends or my parents. DANGER ZONE really sound like a lighter version of the goofier aspects of EDGUY, although this band doesn't joke around. It's just a very well done album that, while it doesn't take a lot of sonic risks in terms of musicianship, flows very well. Vocalist Giacomo Gigantelli isn't going to win any range awards, but his voice is well toned and pitched. He definitely has a melodic voice with a slight edge that sometimes gives the songs an AC/DC feel. Guitarist Roberto Priori is a hell of a lead guitar player. He also isn't bad at providing some groove, such as the beginning riff of "HUMAN CONTACT" or around the halfway point of "T'NIGHT." This same song has a great example of his solos: mid-paced, melodic, catchy, and very complimentary of the song. He definitely knows how to play a solo, but he also realizes he shouldn't over take the song and put the focus on him.
In fact, the entire band works very well together. This cohesive talent keeps the songs rocking non-stop and to the point, never overstaying their welcome. There are some slight keyboards sprinkled throughout the album. They definitely have a classic feel to them and are usually played over the riffs, proving an additional layer to move the songs. The drums and bass are well done; the crystal clear production allows them to shine through. The highlight of the album is definitely is "Hard Rock Paradise" because definitely is the best example of the sound they are going for. It has a well done, faster paced guitar solo, good keyboards, simple of effective riffs, and Giacomo wails pretty well here.
Even though the songs sound like they would play in the background of an 80's movie montage, the album is something fans of hard rock should listen to, especially if they aren't quite ready to delve into something more extreme.
