Crematory - Liverevolution album cover

Crematory always has been something of an odd duck in the Gothic Metal scene. While most bands in this particular genre tend to work with a female vocalist in one way or another, Crematory has always faithfully relied upon vocalist Felix's grunting (and the occasional clean male vocals added to the mix) to get the job done. And while this might not have given them the success that a lot of other bands have had with this music, it made sure that they are a band with an own face and sound who, over the years have managed to assure themselves of a solid position in the Metal scene.
After almost a decade of music it seemed the band's career was over in 2001 when they split up. Ultimately Crematory decided to return to the front in 2004 with the release of Revolution, their eighth studio album. Liverevolution documents their live comeback at the Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig of that same year.
As a nice gesture to their fans, Liverevolution contains both a live CD as well as a DVD, available in two different formats (either CD or DVD packaging). The recorded WGT show is both musically as well as visually of excellent quality. The band seems to have a lot of fun on stage and delivers an energetic performance with especially vocalist Felix and guitar player Matthias (who also handles the clean vocals) seemingly having the time of their lives. It needs not to be said that the main bulk of the setlist consists of songs taken from Revolution (no less than six), but of course there is also room for the odd classic and even a cover version in the shape of Temple Of Love, which closes the show.
Aside from the main concert, the DVD is filled with three video clips (Greed, Revolution and Tick Tack) which are fun enough to sit through at least once. An interview, which is completely in German and lacks subtitles (probably making it a little bit hard for a lot of people to understand what is being talked about), a photo gallery, and a backstage / life on the road type of documentary complete things. All of these items count as nice extras without really being essential viewing.
In short, Liverevolution is definitely worth owning if you are a fan of the band. For others who have yet to discover Crematory, it makes a decent enough introduction to invest in, while the people that didn't care in the first place probably won't change their mind after this release either. All in all a nice diversion until the next studio output.
