Countless packages reach my door on a daily basis by mail hiding inside them the works of musicians from around the world and every now and then a package says Hey! What does a Hey stand for? Well, it's the tag-line I use for surprise displayed in my eyes when finally something different comes knocking on my door. Ringing In My Head is one of the finest examples of such an occasion.
Cori is (freely translated into Greek it stands for 'daughter'!) is a 22-year old Orlando native and this is her debut attempt in the wide world of the music industry. Though young in age, Cori has already made a passage from dancing and acting - a positive energy driven gal! Cori was most recently seen showcasing her talents on UPN's popular 2005 music-based reality show, The Road To Stardom with Missy Elliott.
Ringing In My Head runs for 37 minutes. Within its duration Cori delivers a fine mixture of modern Rock / melodic Rock songs. The driving force of her voice sits smoothly above all the compositions. And trust me, this album has a lot of mood-swings. From the opener and quite dirty Gratitude to the more mainstream Everything You Said up to the great power ballad My Ever After Cori sounds really confident and never lets the music become more dominant than her voice. Thankfully this album avoids becoming poppy for even one second.
For me this will become my wake up call for the chilly mornings coming this way in the winter which is already closing in. In a world of clones suckin' the blood out of mainstream music Cori is a nice surprise. Check out her debut and don't be surprised if you see her in a couple of years being number one on channels like MTV or something.
