THE CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT, or CNE, of Gothenburg, Sweden, boast six full-length releases. Their self-titled was released in 2005, followed up by "...And the Rest Will Follow" in 2007, "The Return of Rock N'Roll" in 2008, 2010's "Dead Central" and finally "Right Between The Eyes" in 2014. Their latest effort, "Chuck Me!" was released May 5 of this year. The first two tracks "Habit To Support" and "Money Maker" have essentially the same riff, and not a particularly good one at that. Most of the other songs run together very badly as well. The rhythm guitars sound almost identical track to track and the leads are thoroughly un-engaging (with the possible exception of "Piece of Ass"), being overly reliant on sustain. It wouldn't be legitimate to criticize the lack of textural variation given the genre, but it's monotony to the point that removing the lyrics would make you think you were listening to a repetitive one-song punk opus of some description.

That being said, "It Won't Be Pretty" is perhaps the first engaging number here owing to the acoustic background melody that crops up here and there. For that matter, I'd be lying if "Long Way Back" didn't make an enjoyable departure by sounding (as my friend put it) like BEASTIE BOYS performing "The Wall". "Murder On My Mind" is structurally similar to the other songs here, but benefits from being a little more catchy. "The Truth (Sticking to My Guns)" is also more stylistically akin to the rest of the album, and to me was the standout track for being melodic and simple without overstaying its welcome. The intro riff gets wrung out like the others, but there's more to wring. If you don't like punk this album is definitely not going to change your mind. It is an utterly unapologetic release performed with a great deal of energy (though less than the preceding release). It's also largely in keeping with their other work, so if you're a fan this album won't disappoint.
