Frozen Images
Cemetery Of Scream

I'm always trying to listen to an album more than one time before writing a review. And most of the times I'm trying to be in different moods and hours of the day. And I'm doing this because I want to see the album from different angles and listen to stuff that I didn't notice the previous time, if any.
Well, that doesn't help all the times the band with a higher rate from me. CEMETERY OF SCREAM is a band from Poland and Frozen Images is their fifth full-length album. From their bio, I found out that the band was born back in 1992 and that they are ... one of the pioneers of 'atmospheric Doom Metal' in Poland. Fortunately, during my presence in this E-magazine, I did learn the hard way that you mustn't believe what the Press release is saying. Well, not always but most of the times. Not much more to say abut those guys as far as their history concerns.
So, let's go to the part that we all want to read. And this will be a full but comprehensive review. As I wrote earlier, the band is moving in the atmospheric Metal. It's quite difficult to play something that will make you distinguish from all the others. And CEMETERY OF SCREAM doesn't manage anything like that. OK, the production is above average, and you will find some interesting moments, but that's not all in an album. Most of the melodies and riffs are played in the past from other bands and the voice of the new singer, Olaf, reminded me of some goth singers in the 80s that tried to convince even themselves that they are singing, even though they were out of tune. And this is something that is not good. The band may seem tight but they have to work more on their compositions since they didn't make any interest to me.
To tell you the truth, I don't have anything else to write about this mediocre album. When you have a singer that his voice melodies make him (and I'm sorry to say that) offensive to the ear, except when he growls where his is quite good, songs that are not special and some melodies are almost the same with the ones you may listened to other bands of this genre and gothic ones, and - last but not least - a cover song that, I believe, they will be even sorry that they put it in the album as a bonus track, you don't have many thing to write about.
