BURNT OUT WRECK is a Classic Rock band based out of the UK. They present their debut album here, entitled "Swallow," which contains eleven tracks. Classic Rock is a genre that never really went away, in the sense that there have been and continue to be new bands in this genre who are reviving the sounds of the past. Some of it has been good, while others have been just too much of a replication of a sound that we have all heard before. Where does "Swallow" fit in this spectrum? Let's get to the songs to find out. "Burnt Out Wreck" is a mid-tempo Rock song with an easy listening riff that uses both major and minor chords. Moat's vocals are raspy and vibrato laden; the perfect match for this kind of music. The title track has an early AC/DC sound from the opening riff. In fact, if you closed your eyes and did not read the label you might swear Bon Scott's ghost was re-incarnated to publish some material that was not previously released.

Is "Pullin' in Out" a sexual reference? Well, when the next line is "stickin' it in," and the chorus chimes "she's always pullin' it out, I'm always stickin' it in," I would have to declare it so. These kinds of lyrics are innocuous when considering the larger context of early Rock music, but do they have a place today? Maybe if they were coming from the tongue-in-cheek STEEL PANTHER, but outside of that I don't know. "Medusa" is a faster moving track with a jovial riff and lyrical context about a charming woman who hypnotizes you as she moves through the room. "She's a Dirty Love" is another reference to the wares of a female partner and juvenile themes that again just seem out of place. The music is easy to comprehend and I don't want to begrudge their integrity, because as artists they are free to express themselves in any way that they want, of course.

The ballad "Your Love (Is all I Need)" is a nice tender moment on the album, with a Southern Bluesy charm and a strong vocal performance. The backing vocals add a nice touch as well. "Best of Your Life" closes the album. A mid-tempo song with a groovy rhythm, it moves up and down a pentatonic scale and features a dirty and sleazy guitar solo with some wah-wah effects. Overall, it was sometimes a flat listening experience because it didn't bring anything new to the table. They do however sound like they are having fun, and in the end, that's all that really matters. If you enjoy easy listening Hard Rock, I would find no fault here in "Swallow."
