Billy Boy In Poison - Invoker album cover

A wise man once said that Metal is like classical music, you know that musical mise en scene in which violins, pianos and all those antique instruments get together to form huge cover bands that keep playing what the best songwriters of the time (somewhere from around 500 to 300 years ago) wrote; but with the power of electricity added to it. I'll have to disagree partially with what he said; not only was electricity added to the a manner of music which some claim has reached perfection in more than one way, but also the ingredient needed for an evolution much needed after so much time, In some cases evolving and increasing the technical perfection to the point where the authors have acquired the status of divinities, whether they be light or dark depending on the branch of metal they have decided to embrace, both with speed, production and a take no prisoners attitude that Classical Music has very few times shown, if not for Ludwig Van and Niccolo Paganini. One of the best things about being alive,

The intro alone is reason enough for me to acquire great appreciation for this album, once the first lines of the opening verse of "Invoker" started adhering to the part of my brain responsible of analyzing language, to put it together with the music the other parts of my brain in charge of recognizing what I consider to be my favorite music began producing an incomparable feeling of satisfaction that pushed me to listen to this record twice without any interruption. "Invoker" is the sophomore album of the Danish Death Metal band BILLY BOY IN POISON, a work of creativity within the most brutal and obscure depths of Death Metal. "Exodus" is constructed by an interesting balance between contrasts and stability; one more proof of the resilience of this band and the level of quality in their songwriting, performance and recording.

After reading some references of this band all across Metal Forums as I commonly do when reviewing a new artist, I got one thing straight, not only talent, but hard work and discipline are what make and have always made a band worthy of respect, an asset much more valuable than record sales or fame; valued as one of the strongest underground bands of their generation BILLY BOY IN POISON fills an old metal fan heart's like me with joy and contempt, and my only wish is that they carry on for many years and that I get to see them perform live before I die, A brand of Metal much appreciated that only gets better with time.
