Jean Beauvoir (ex VOODOO X) is an iconic Hard Rock character, the last of the mohawks, a gifted musicians/Multi-instrumentalist, a talented producer but above all a sublime songwriter/soulful Singer in the great American Tradition!
Coming backward, in the middle of the 90's in the ugly Grunge infest era, he formed and fronted one of the most entertaining band of that time, and perhaps saving the whole genre by giving hope, a little light at the end of the tunnel...CROWN OF THORNS and the unexpected success of their debut album wrote a page of the American Rock history!
His partner in crime was the skilled guitar player Micki Free formerly of SHALAMAR, with a style deeply rooted in the 70's and a real talent in writing in a team spirit : the perfect Beauvoir's associate in order to complete the work!
The American Melodic Hard Rock veterans Jean Beauvoir and Micki Free are back together, the duo is reactive again since 2013...In May 9th, 2014 Frontiers Records - home for WHITESNAKE / DEF LEPPARD / JOURNEY / WINGER / HOUSE OF LORDS and many other legendary Rock groups, announced the signing of BEAUVOIR/FREE project for a new album, due out worldwide in June 2015!
The result is "American Trash", an album that is shaped in the same vision and in a coherent way of their triumphal classic disc, a continuation of their magic sound rightfully praised by many!
From the inimitable Jean Beauvoir's typical high soaring tone of the great "Angels Cry" with a damn catchy hook line to the pure Heavy Rock attitude of "Whiplash"/ "Shotgun to the Heart" or "There's Not Starting Over" to the magnificent ballads "Just Breathe" and "Never Give Up"...Everything is perfect the sound and the terrific harmonized layered backing vocal, the arrangements...On "Morning After" the 70's spirit is obviously present and the stringed orchestration recalls something between Bob Ezrin and John Lennon..."Cold Dark December" reveal another subtle Melodic gimmick with some fierce guitar parts...The title track and the late running Power Pop influenced "She's a KO" are my least favorite songs.
Anyway this "American Trash" is recommended to those who missed badly the CROWN OF THORNS unmistakable identity, notably the alchemy and the sublime fat sound of Micki Free who plays some superb melodic lead solo spots in a total artistic frenzy!<
