It's always difficult to write a review on a debut EP, and more so if there are just 2 songs on offer here. Hailing from Virginia, USA, Speed Metal newbies BAT released their debut EP "Cruel Discipline" this March 21st and within the 2 songs there is some magic here.
I never imagined in my wildest of dreams that I would have come across a record where the first song starts with a women orgasms, yes that's right, "Cruel Discipline" shocks right from the word go before going into the traditional Heavy Metal and Speed Metal route. The music is quite interesting as well, as the band blasts fast paced riffs backed by thick high pitch clean vocals by Ryan Waste. The riffs are catchy and remind me of RAVEN, ACCEPT, DIO etc. What's noteworthy are the sexual and violent lyrics resonated by the amazing album cover art by Andrei Bouzikov. "Rule of the Beast" has some anthemic vibe going on due to the backing vocals and is another interesting song with the chaotic nature of the sound really giving an interesting side to the band's sound.
All in all, with just 2 songs released by BAT, the boys do make the listeners begging for more. Formed in just 2013, the band already seems to have grown a cult status in their home city and the good news is that according to the band's Facebook page, they are recording their first full length as I write this. So hopefully we will hear more of those orgasms!
