Baphomet's Blood - In Satan We Trust album cover

Stadiums aren't the first thing you expect to spring to mind when you first check out BAPHOMET'S BLOOD. With all the dark imagery on their Bandcamp, the references to Devil Worship and a goat-headed demon adorning the artwork, the signs are in place for a badly produced Black Metal album recorded in a shack somewhere. But then it starts playing and all the expectations are scattered like bone fragments on an oil drum lid. Because as soon as 'Command Of The Inverted Cross' escapes its intro and kicks off properly, it becomes clear that these guys have more in common with MOTORHEAD than WATAIN. They play gravel throated, high octane rock and roll that could have been lifted from a biker movie soundtrack and it's absolutely masses of fun. That might not seem likely if you're staring at the picture of the cover next to this review or reading the names of the four guys involved, but it's true. 'In Satan We Trust' by BAPHOMET'S BLOOD is a total blast.

The rabid riffing of the title track for instance is essentially the music version of a thousand chopper engines revving at once. The guitars blast power chords faster than a hummingbird can beat its wings and frontman Necrovomiterror growls pseudo-satanic lyrics straight out of the eighties Metal handbook. 'Hellbreaker' is equally entertaining and is played so fast it's a miracle the drummer didn't keel over and die during the recording. It's loud, it's stupid and you can already picture the sour-faced corpse-painted elitists looking on in disgust whenever these lads are mistakenly booked onto a Black Metal all-dayer. On the downside, BAPHOMET'S BLOOD only really have one setting and they stick rigidly to the same formula for every track here. In truth they've really only written one song and tweaked it just enough to turn it into eight (plus a cover), but it's a great song nonetheless. Who'd have thought something with this much blood dripping through it would have so much party potential?
