Atra Vetosus - Ius Vitae Necisque album cover

There are many interesting things about the band ATRA VETOSUS. They definitely have a unique and deep, complex sound about their music. "Ius Vitae Necisque" is certainly one of the best albums I have ever reviewed. This is my shit. They keep it Black, but I can only say wow, to how versatile the album is. What makes it even better, is that the whole album is one song. That is one song that embodies an album's worth of songs.

The only disappointment I have towards this album, I that it's not long enough. I need more dammit. That, however is not a big complaint. The 22 minutes and some odd seconds that the music lasts are quite the musical experience. Bands like this are what won me over to the metal scene. It's heavy, with blast beats, double bass, and that great Black Metal guitar style. Yet, they also breech beyond the typical level with their mellow side. From ocean waves, to soothing guitar plucking, they literally pack everything into their big long song of an album.

I have always felt, at least in my little shitty slice of paradise, that the more melodic and depth hitting bands are extremely underrated. These guys are no exception. Just wonderful. This is what music was meant to be. It'll take you through all the highs and lows, from one extreme to the other. These guys have the touch, and this is the music that makes Lucifer proud. I know a lot of people may not dig it. That's your problem. Honestly, this is a perfect example of Metal not being solely about brutality and speed. In my eyes, this album is truly work of art.

So guys, I say now, take the challenge. Take your music to the next level. If you can keep up the sound, but work more heaviness and speed in, then you'll become a dark force that cannot be compared. But for now, you get zero complaints out of me. Keep doing your thing, I fuckin love it, and I am anxiously awaiting the full length that you guys spoke of on you Bandcamp page.
