AOSOTH is a one man Black Death Metal band from France, formed in 2002 and active with one sole member, the multi-instrumentalist known as MKM which actually stands for Magus Kaiser Munkir, who manages to extend his devil given talent in order to build an inexpugnable fortress through the notes played in endless tremolos that work as foundations along with drumlines and chord progressions that produce the thickest walls that do not allow for any unexperienced or susceptible mind to enter, for once the gates are shut, the experience does not allow for anyone to leave without completing the six tracks that make this sixth full length album for the experienced worshipers of the prince of darkness. I must admit I expected something a tad more complex and innovative when I first caught a glimpse of the cover art, but then again maybe it is just my usual self associating Black Metal directly with blurry or pitch black covers with nothing but shades and white unintelligible logos that do not allow for a new concept to be associated with these usually monotonous and under produced music.

Self-defined as Black Death Metal, the construction of worlds inside the mind of the listener with the use of technical resources such as white noise and sound effects seems perfect in accordance with the extreme and shocking character always associated with Black Metal, but also adds up to the sensation that the whole records seems like the same song played all over again, if not for the loops of sound effects that are used as bumpers between each track.

The first track alone is nine minutes too long, the vibe at the start establishes a mind frame that becomes rapidly extinguished after the first half of the song, to top it all, a minute and a half of bells tolling with some static in the background build up as both the closure of the first song and the second, which could have perfectly worked as the end of the album all together. A true work of creativity for the gifted minds that can elaborate and put into context such a complex piece of work, a set of ideas arranged as promoters of chaos and the ideas and principles that all that you know is upside down, for chaos is all that persists as the kingdom of darkness closes in on us more and more with each passing day, achieving its goal as a shocking genre and the material for nightmares in the years to come.
