Alabama Thunderpussy - Open Fire album cover

Did you miss these crazy fuckers? I sure missed them! I have noticed that many of the CD's I get for review are being released three years after the band's previous release. So, three years after Fulton Hill, ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY return with a brand new album. I can swear I smelled the whiskey from miles away! That's the way we like it, southern style!

Formed in 1996 in Richmond (Virginia), the American Stoner metalers (or rockers, depends what do you consider Stoner to be) debuted with their 1998 awesome album Rise Again. After three albums that were released through Man's Ruin Records, ATP signed a contract with Relapse. This contract resulted in the release of three more albums, Staring At The Divine (2002), Fulton Hill (2004) and Open Fire. If they keep with this pace, this contract will last for a long time.

I think there are many times when you are drunk while drinking beer or a bottle of good whiskey (or more bottles) and you want some good music to accompany those moments. Most of those times you listen to MOTORHEAD, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, PANTERA, BLACK SABBATH. What about some good Stoner stuff that will make your blood pump? ATP just released one more Heavy Rock opus that will rank their name amongst the best bands of the genre. After the mediocre (in my opinion) Demons (2005) by SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, these crazy Americans show the way to what heavy as fuck really means. The guitar work is fucking heavy, the drumming is groovy, the low tuned bass is something more than an earthquake and the vocals reminded me of JB's (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS singer) best moments. This album smells whiskey from miles away! I am sure they didn't compose this album sober! This album can only be characterized as an all out jamfest! Just imagine ATP at their best and an ex Thrash Metal singer, delivering southern Rock vocal lessons! Kyle Thomas is a great singer and he proves that he can do many things with his unique voice!

I think that this album can proudly be on your shelve, next to albums like Ad Astra (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS), Blues For The Red Sun (KYUSS) and Deliverance (CORROSION OF CONFORMITY). All of you who know the band or the genre already know what to do. The rest of you, buy this album, buy a bottle of good whiskey, and enjoy...
