ADRENALINE come from the UK where they were formed someday in 2004. The British act started building its reputation from the very beginning getting the Birmingham Music Award for the best unsigned Rock Act in 2005. Their first release was in the form of an EP under the title of Being This Side of Insane that saw the light of the day through Rising Records in 2007. Their publicity rise continued getting their songs in video games and several X-treme sports DVDs.
So, Castrum Doloris is the band's debut full length release and I am responsible to explain whether I agree with aforementioned publicity fuss.
The riff driven The Bereaved that opens the album made me smile only for a moment; the Metalcore shout/screaming vocals came quickly to spoil my appetite. The song structure follows the trendy recipe of solid rhythms, shouting vs clean vocals and of course pounding drums that give the young fans a reason to mosh. As it usually happens the Swedish influences are everywhere but not in the guitar solos that are nowhere to be found. you can think of SOILWORK and late THE HAUNTED while keeping in mind the newbies jumping-up-and-down CALIBAN. Among the predictable fast breaks and heavy staccato rhythms there are some nice riff ideas in the headbanger Relentless or the faster Inertia that serves some nice breaks.
Apart from the full of energy compositions the British band adds totally nothing in the Metalcore scene that seems over-populated with all these new releases. On the other hand this growing (in publicity) scene seems to attract all the young metalheads (?) who are always happy to form mosh pits under the pounding Metalcore sound. Maybe I am too old for all this but despite my efforts this genre has not manage draw my interest in anyway.
So, if you think that this hate/power fueled music is your cup of tea, then ADRENALINE are a very good addition in the Metalcore armory because they know exactly their way around.
