Acres - Lonely World album cover

When I think of Post-Hardcore, some of the first bands that come to mind are AS CITIES BURN, THURSDAY, or even THE WARMERS. Well, I'm here to tell you that ACRES is now among that list. Formed in 2011, and hailing from South Coast, UK. ACRES is here with their debut full length album "Lonely World" and it will without a doubt blow you away with their precision guitars, solid drumming, and unbelievable vocal range from front man Ben Lumber.

"Deathbed" is the first song on the album. It's an instrumental track and it really sets the scene and tone for what you're about to get into. The second song "Medicine" kicks in with a buildup that will make you eager to hear more. The mix of distorted guitars, catchy hooks, and tremendous vocals will make this a song you can't forget. The album's title track "Lonely World" is also a superb name for the album because the message they are delivering is mixed with passionate screams and clean singing throughout the song to give it that gloomy all around feel. The song "Hurt" is where we are introduced to more of an emotional side that will put you in the center of their aura. Next to that is "Lullaby"; these songs have the power to make you feel the moral they are putting in their lyrics.

"Talking In Your Sleep" along with "Sharpen Your Teeth" takes it up a notch, while still keeping the ambient feeling throughout. These songs incline to remind us what the resonance of post hardcore tends to represent; passion and emotion, meets anger and resentment. Though I believe that's what this whole album represents. "Skin Over Mine" is the ending track to this and once again the powerful lyrics and instant guitar pauses with a faint high hat in the back will capture your attention and throw you back into the empathy seat until the end.

Overall, I can't really find any flaws within this album. It is filled with sentiment and sincerity throughout all of the 10 tracks, with Ben Lumber vividly painting a picture with the lyrics. These guys managed to conquer all aspects of the genre they claim, while at the same time bringing their own spin to it. Most importantly, they put their hearts and souls into the music on every track in a way that draws you into what they're feeling. They have an extremely promising future and I'm anxious to see what they come out of the studio with next.
