Subrosa: Announce New Album "We Fought The Battle For Ages" Coming August 26th, 2016
June 11, 2016
Salt Lake City experimental doom band Subrosa are elated to announce their most triumphant and enveloping album to date; For This We Fought the Battle of Ages, is due outAugust 26thfromProfound Lore Records.
Although not strictly a concept album, the themes and questions raised throughout the album draw heavily fromYevgeny Zamyatin'sscience fiction novel,We. Control vs. Freedom is a tug of war that not only permeatesFor This We Fought The Battle Of Ages, but isa daily consideration for many around the world. Whilst the subject matter may be less personal than previous albums, the politicaland social issues addressed are no less urgent, engaging, or close to the band's hearts.
For guitarists/vocalist,Rebecca Vernon, forming the album aroundWewas a new experience, having previously written music beforerounding off the concepts involved. Sonic and visual inspiration comes from the 1920's - albeit in distinctively different ways.Wewasfirst published in 1921, and the album artwork created byGlyn Smith(Stag & Serpent design) - inspired by silent film era actresses - has been created in very traditional twentiesart deco and ex libris styles from that time.
For This We Fought The Battle Of AgesseesSubrosaexpanding their sound to a new plateau with their heaviest, darkest, andmost dynamic-sounding album to date through bigger-sounding production value (the new album was fully engineered and mixed bydrummerAndy Patterson). With mastering courtesy of Brad BoatrightatAudiosiege Engineering, the album's intricacies areaccentuated, and heaviness remains heavy - "heavy is important", says Vernon. With the awareness brought onto the band with thenew album's predecessor, which also sawSubrosaon their most active touring schedule yet,For This We Fought The Battle OfAgeswill bring more demand and awareness to the band as they prepare to unveil their most important and crucial album in theirrepertoire.
With this album, the band are continuing the momentum with 2013's highly acclaimed turning point albumMore Constant Than The Gods, which saw year end acclaim in all metal and mainstream music outlets respectively. The album brought a new awareness to Subrosaas one of the most prominent doom-infused metal bands from America today, through their singular crushing monolithicsound canvas which consists of a devastating mix of soul crushing doom metal, neo-classical chamber music (solidified by the band'stwo electric violin players), and Appalachian murder balladry all filtered through the veil of American gothic tragedy.
"Whenever we make an album, my number one ambition is to be an energy force, to create a difference and make people feelsomething real. I want it to do what art is supposed to do." - Rebecca Vernon.
