SIX BELLS: NPR Premieres New Song 'Out of the Line'
October 21, 2015
SIX BELLS is a Louisville band featuring vocalist / guitarist Brandon Butler (formerly of Boy's Life and Canyon), guitarist / keyboardist Ryan Patterson (Coliseum, Whips/Chains), bassist Keith Bryant (ex-Coliseum), and drummer Forrest Kuhn (killii killii, ex-Ennui). The group will release its debut album, A Little Bit Forever on October 30 via Translation Loss Records. NPR All Songs Considered now premieres the new song, 'Out of the Line', saying, "its down-home boogie-rock sounds like The Afghan Whigs reincarnated as a Replacements B-side." SIX BELLS' A Little Bit Forever is a record powered by tunes that are honest in sound, undeniably catchy and drenched in conviction. Frontman Brandon Butler's lyrics and vocals bring to life detailed imagery, wrapped in melody. A veteran of the Midwest indie scene, Butler moved to Louisville in 2014, where he met up with scene veterans Patterson, Kuhn and Bryant, all established players in the local punk/indie scene, to form SIX BELLS. SIX BELLS combines the lyricism of Butler's solo songwriter work with the taut hardcore backbone of Bryant and Kuhn, plus Patterson's tasteful, melodic guitar to create music that has been described as "blending post-punk and Americana into a mid-tempo pastiche of Midwestern indie".
Butler himself says of the band, "Six Bells is American rock music. Imagine if Tom Petty and Quicksand had a baby."
