June 1, 2017
PETYR Unleashes New Song "Stairway to Attic" San Diego Heavy Psych Group Featuring Guitarist Riley Hawk to Release Self-Titled Debut June 9.
PETYR is a psychedelic hard rock band fronted by guitarist and award-winning pro skater Riley Hawk, son of legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk. The San Diego quartet, hailed for its "sonic heaviness", will release its debut full-length, Petyr, on June 9 via Outer Battery Records (Chelsea Wolfe, Dinosaur Jr., SLEEP). In advance of the record's release, Revolver premieres the new song, "Stairway to Attic", along with an in-depth interview with the band, saying, "Riley Hawk may be best known as a pro skater, but he also has a psychedelic rock band called Petyr that just finished laying down a heavy self-titled record. Hailing from San Diego, California, the group summons influences from some of their favorite local acts such as Earthless, Sacri Monti and Harsh Toke - mood-altering jam bands fully immersed in skate culture." Steeped in equal parts hard rock and skateboarding, PETYR draws influence from high-power godfathers such as Japanese psychedelic masters Flower Traveling Band, Black Sabbath (natch) and hometown psych scene kings Earthless. The eight track album was written over the course of countless jam sessions, capturing the spirit of cruising down the California highways and sea salt spattered coastline.
In additional PETYR news, Guitar World just premiered the song "Old and Creepy", calling the track, "a choice cut brimming with heavy Sabbathian/stoner/psych jams." Hear PETYR's "Old and Creepy" at THIS location.

"Our sound is a product of where we grew up," Hawk comments. "We skate and we jam, and each feeds off the energy of the other."
"San Diego-based psych rock quartet Petyr played a 30-minute set of smooth stoner jams, most of them decorated with long, flowing instrumental passages. Their brand of sonic heaviness is well-crafted and was equally well-presented on this stage, keeping the steadily filling Roxy engaged, as generous applause followed each of their tunes...well worth the listen, specially for the stoner rock/metal community. - METAL ASSAULT
"On a recent trip to Tony's southern California home I asked him what Riley was up to, and he told me to go into the garage and see for myself. I was annoyed to find Riley jamming out with his buddies like he wasn't rich as all hell. Now he's playing music? Give me a fucking break. What's next? Getting a job?" - VICE
