Without having any special interest, this album from the Germany-based MORTUUS INFRADAEMONI is really difficult to hear in its total, one hour, duration. A two-member band, with Nathaniel in guitars, vocals and Profanatitas in drumming, bass, vocal duties being both of them as drummers in LUNAR AURORA, they try to explore Black metal kingdoms with emphasis in the atmosphere. Formed in the May of 2005, Ivis Avernis is their second album till now.
There is a purpose in creating a misty background mainly in songs like Bastard, Darkland and Der Tod. The vocals are totally in the background, seeming like eerie whispers producing a veil of mystery and vague, odd magical picture. Here is when they win some credits and especially in the way they offer the ideas including some characteristic details to give the listener's impression that he is in a paradox dark realm between dreams. They fail in materializing - as it should be - the whole project because they suffer from the lack of really good guitar riffing, using things that we have heard millions of times before the weariness is inevitable.
The disc becomes brighter - I could say, more well distinguished - during the other songs, where we come across a more straight Black Metal style. Unfortunately, the whole result is again uninspired with some good moments in Menhim Rises, in Mortuus Et Prodeunt Infradaemoni and the closure of Obscuritas Ubique Et In Aeternum.
Cold Dimensions has a very special sound and style in the bands they sign and all those who like their back catalogue will surely find interest in this one. Except that, I found Imis Avernis rather boring and trite.
