The Three Woes
Curse Upon a Prayer

CURSE UPON A PRAYER is a Finnish black metal band formed in 2010 that breaks away from the stereotypical bands of Finland and instead employs more melody, resembling the likes of MARDUK, GORGOROTH and 1349. The three song EP seems to be a fiercely anti-Islamic prequel to their upcoming full length, "Infidel." While nothing new, a black metal band being against organized religion, the band (which not surprisingly chooses to remain anonymous) has shed the age old tradition of ripping up bibles and instead has made regular Quran destroying a part of their live act.
"Let Thy Kingdom Come" opens with a drum fill and plows straight into your standard tremolo picking and blast beats, coupled with chaotic screeches. "Thou Shalt Be Cursed" shows off a bit of of atmospheric flair, with various guitar effects and layered vocals, as tremolo picking bursting with melody continues the depressive excursion. A bit of a repetitive ending to the track gives off a feeling of torment. "Woe! Woe! Woe!" concludes the release with a seven minute journey into darkness, with haunting chords and screams of raw aggression.
Overall the production of the short but sweet EP is above average and it makes for a solid EP but lacks in the originality department in many respects.
