From the first few seconds after the raining intro faded into a melodic opening of sizzling guitar and an epic atmosphere, I liked this album.  It's a well-balanced album as well and paced well.  It has eleven tracks, one of which is an epic, with the rest playing from 4 to 6 minutes or so.  The songs are as long as they need to be and the album doesn't have one second of filler. Silk and Daniels are a dynamic duo, able to conjure of emotional images through their stringed attacks and the leads are wonderful.  Opening track, "Welcome to My World," swirls between clean guitar picking and back drop of heavy riffs, all held together by melodic harmonies and leads.

The second track, "Nothing to Me," is a fast-paced rock with a catchy chorus and some fancy lead work complimented by some groovy, metallic tinged riffs.  James Hart's vocals really give the band a laid back, care free rocking sound.  He is very expressive like a progressive metal singer but he also throws in an 80's hair metal vibe or maybe a cooler version of BON JOVI.  The guitar solo and rhythm riffs halfway thru the song are some of the best on the album and really show off the shredders' chops. If I could suggest a song that really gives a great overview of their sound I would say the fifth track "Sickened" is just that.  Meticulously played riffs that come in heavy bursts outline the rest of the song that contains a soaring chorus, double bass, and bass guitar that holds it all down.  The solos is a more melodic version of something MEGADETH would come up with and the ending riffs cap it all off.

"This Is A War We Cannot Win," is such a great track; everything about it just works so well.  The exciting vocals, crunchy riffs, power drums, thumping bass...the band is firing on cylinders on this one.  I don't think the album has a bad song but this one is definitely a highlight for me.  The final track, "Faces In The Sand Part One," is an epic track, clocking in at almost 10 minutes.  It doesn't feel that long as every part of the song flows so well.   The song is mid paced and at times has a power ballad feel to it but it does end up getting heavy, right before introducing an amazingly melodic solo that ends the song with a bang. JUPITER FALLS has created an album that perfectly blends hard rock/metal with a melodic sound without compromising either style and instead creating one that's all their own.
