JUDICATOR is a young band, formed in 2012, but its members have been around for quite some time playing in other bands. They are not here to play games but to work hard. Since their formation in 2012 they already managed to release three full albums, a significant achievement indeed.

"At the Expense of Humanity" is a concept album about John Yelland's (vocals) brother who passed away after battling cancer. This is a hard read as Yelland is totally exposing himself here. Feelings of anger, despair, disappointment, fear and rage alongside the dynamics inside the family. All these will make it hard for you to stay indifferent.

When I was looking at the album cover, trying to figure out what I'm going to hear, I had no idea what's expecting me. The album cover with their logo reminded me a bit Trance music albums. The first listening was not love from first sight. Yelland's vocals are good but sounded to me as if I already heard them somewhere else. Maybe in the future he will find his own unique voice or maybe not. Still, he is a very good singer and he delivers his own words very well. This is a pretty long album running at 66 minutes with a lot going on in there.

At the 3^rd run on this album I noticed I like this album more and more with every listening. I was even singing with it some of the lyrics. This one is definitely an album that deserves more than one run on your speakers or headphones. And it needs it to grasp everything that happens with the music and the story. You can find anything good in heavy metal in this album, great guitar solos (my favourite is in "How Long Can You Live Forever?") and leads, good vocals, choirs, powerful riffs and a great execution by all the band members.

All in all we have here a good heavypower metal album with touches of progressive metal. My favourite track on this one is definitely "Autophagia" that starts with a riff made for headbanging and continues to a touching clean guitar pre-chorus that goes to the powerful chorus which makes you want to sing along with the band. On the other hand, most of the album didn't catch as this one.

Also important to mention, the guest vocalist Paul Black with the harsh vocals and Mercedes Victoria with the female vocals (as Yelland's mother) contributing to the atmosphere.
