Aaahh, what is the most beautiful thing regarding our most beloved music genre? My opinion is that the best thing is when you discover a new band, a band you didn't know shit about and you realize that it kicks some major ass. Then, you just start searching for some info about this band, you listen to their releases (or release) every day and one day, their debut album falls into your hands and it is ready to be reviewed. May I present you ZENITH!
ZENITH were formed in October 1999 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The band's members wanted to create something that would be influenced by many different styles of Metal, but would not sound like any of them. So, after three demos the band signed a contract with the Greek label Burning Star where they now release their debut album Evilution.
The members describe the band's music as Crossover Metal, something that may confuse many of you because we all became familiar with Crossover by bands like SOD and DRI. What I have to say is that no matter how someone will describe the music, the thing is that these guys have maaaaaaaany things to offer to Heavy Metal. There is nothing that you can imagine that is not part of ZENITH's music. These guys can perfectly mix Power, Progressive, Heavy, Hardcore, Thrash, Grindcore, Death, Stoner and everything else that this scene contains. In my humble opinion, ZENITH is a much more extreme version of NEVERMORE. The rhythm section kicks some major ass and the guitars are razor sharp! The best thing in ZENITH's music is Jay's vocals. I had the chance to talk with him and asked him who the one who records the backing vocals is. I was more than surprised to hear him saying that he records all the vocals and of course performs them live! This guy has 1000 voices! He can growl, he can sing in a more melodic way, he can scream (hi pitch style!!!) and he can also sing in a more Stoner way. You have to listen to him to believe me. This guy is extreme Metal's Mike Patton! No need to comment the production. The production has been done by the hands of the credited producer Jacob Hansen. Guaranteed success!
This is one of the albums that will stay for a long time in your CD players. Trust me and you won't be disappointed! In my opinion, one of the best releases for 2007 (even though we have a long way until 2008). Invest your money and you won't regret doing it!
