Ex Nihilo
Your Chance To Die

YOUR CHANCE TO DIE, a Melodic Death Metal band, was born in 2008 in South Carolina, USA. This woman fronted band has released a demo, an EP, and three previous full-length albums before releasing "Ex Nihilo" in June 2017, which happens to be the first with dual women vocals. YOUR CHANCE TO DIE has toured with bands such as ORIGIN, WEDNESDAY 13, KING PARROT, ARSONISTS GET ALL THE GIRLS, and more. This new album comes in with eight tracks and a listening time of just over 36 minutes.
The opening track, "Intro", comes in with a bit of a Symphonic feeling without being orchestral and intense atmosphere. It reminds me of something similar to the background music to movies describing what a hot, fire building army sounds like; like Sauron's Army in "The Lord of the Rings". This immediately caught my attention and amped the excitement for the rest of the album.
"End Of Siege", track two, storms in with drums so quick, I'm not sure Thomas has arms after that opener. They are strong and forceful, but still leave room for the incredible guitars to shine high. They have some airiness to them, but also encompass a depth that inspiring. Both sets of vocals are cutthroat growls, but leave enough diversity to create interest in the track. This is Melodic Death Metal. This is savage.
Ahhh, the melody. The melody of the gods can be found in track three, "Feeders". We also find a deep diversity in the vocals here. There are the guttural, coming from the pits of hell vocals and the agony and vicious vocals from your darkest nightmare. They make phenomenal companions. Again, the drums are ferociously fast, and the guitars drip in melody.
"Shapeshifters", track five, is another standout track. This one is a little less extreme when it comes to the drums, but that doesn't make it any less good. In fact, the creativity and the writing of this track is outstanding. It is another track that is saturated with melody and raw goodness. There is something about this one that makes you feel the music deep down in your soul.
The final track "Ignite the Sky" comes in softly with a floating ambience, then blasts in straight away with vocals and blast beats galore. There are some clean, whispered vocals presented in this final track, that creates a nice contrast and builds on to the wow factor of the growled vocals. It is a strong album closer, but not as favorable as previous tracks.
YOUR CHANCE TO DIE's "Ex Nihilo" is an astounding album. From the melody in every single track to the musicianship that is intertwined deeply within, this album will stimulate you, energize your need for good Melodic Death Metal, and awaken the sleeping part of you that forgot it existed. "Ex Nihilo" is gold.
