Wolfpack Unleashed - Anthems Of Resistance album cover

After the really good album by one of Napalm's Thrash bands (I didn't even know this label had anything other than Folk) HURTLOCKER, one more Thrash band from the same label sends its promo CD for a review. Will Napalm manage to surprise me again with some dudes playing really heavy and aggressive music? The only way to find out is to listen to Anthems Of Resistance. Can I have some Thrash Metal please?

The Austrian metallers WOLFPACK UNLEASHED have only released a demo CD in August 2006. Even though I didn't have the chance to listen to that demo, it must be a really great one since it has 9 songs (most of them are included in this album) and something tells me that the production and the whole package are really professional. Anyway, the demo doesn't concern us now. The only thing that matters is their debut album Anthems Of Resistance.

WOLFPACK UNLEASHED have decided to play melodic Thrash Metal that resembles to bands like ARCH ENEMY, HATESPHERE, WITCHERY and of course the high and mighty METALLICA. If you want to understand what this band sound like, try to imagine a mix between classic Bay Area Thrash Metal and Gothenburg's melodic Death Metal scene. Basically, the riffing and the production this album has reminded me of a more brutal version of TRIVIUM's The Crusade. What I consider a negative thing in this band is Gunther's vocals. His voice is like a heavier version of Hetfield's voice, but it is like he wasn't born to sing. The similarity I just mentioned may be pleasant to you, but you will understand what I am saying when you listen to the album.

Anyway, the music is really nice, although I think it is a bit common. The band's technique and composing skills are great, but the market is flooded with such kind of releases. The combination melody/brutality is around every corner. Even though I wasn't bored in the approximately 46 minutes of this album, I wouldn't buy it. I think that there are other bands playing this kind of music better. If WOLFPACK UNLEASHED try a bit harder they can definitely create something much better and take their music a step further, but until then...
