Prosthetic Records has been a label that has intrigued me with its quality bands/releases and consistency. Since I was the one to review WITHERED's 2008 sophomore full-length effort "Folie Circulaire", I thought it would be kind of "fair" to review their brand new offering entitled "Dualitas" to see what this band is up to. "Folie Circulaire" didn't seem so amazing to me, but I always like giving a second chance to bands...
The Atlanta, Georgia based metallers have been around for 7 years now, playing their own kind of extreme music. WITHERED have created a rather interesting style of music, that somehow mixes Black and Death Metal with some Doom & Sludge elements. This unique creation offers you a variety of sounds, that range from "blackened" blasting outbreaks, to mid tempo rotten Death Metal parts, as well as "muddy" slow passages. To tell you the truth, "Dualitas" didn't manage to amaze me either, although I listened to it several times without really being bored. The fact is that this US four piece has managed to create an album that is both aggressive and atmospheric in its own sense. The guitars are impatiently waiting to smash your bones with their heavy as fuck riffs, but they somehow manage to make this happen disguised in a sad and beautifully haunting sound.
WITHERED are actually able to control you using this album, since they are able to hypnotize you with their trippy sounds, and give you huge doses of adrenaline with their blackened Death Metal. The production is also perfect for this album, since it is heavy enough to support the music it contains, and bares this dirty sound that is needed for the atmosphere the band wants to create. As I said, not bad at all, yet not something incredible. If you are out for some Christmas shopping, just have this one on the top of your "B" list.
