Well, a good way to describe the music of Winterfell is WOW! Yeah, right, this album caused me a lot of heartache boys and girls, trust me on this one. These U.S. folks Rock big time! But let's take things from the beginning...
I had the chance a couple of years ago to listen to 1-2 tracks from their Demo called Winter is Coming and I recall founding them really cool. So, imagine my surprise when an envelope from the band reached my door! I held the package and thought Hey, the name seems familiar and yes, it was the same band.
Now how can I describe their music? Hmm... technical, Power Metal, Epic Metal, a bit progressive and a lot of Iced Earth! Really, their singer, Robb Graves, brings this Barlow dude a lot in mind. But Winterfell are too damn technical to be compared to Iced Earth (much more technical than Iced Earth on their first three albums). Definitely not the easiest music to digest; it doesn't give away its secret at first listening and for many people their lengthy songs might sound boring. But then again the beauty here is trying to break each song down and discover every single riff pattern. The addition of acoustic guitar parts adds a lot of epic vibe to the whole project.
The production is a bit moody for my taste but it's ok in general. In conclusion, does The Veil Of Summer kick major ass? Yeap, this is a killer release that will satisfy all those U.S. Metal fans.
