Windfall - Infector album cover

When I saw the Infector promo CD on my list of assigned albums, I thought I would have to review yet another Heavy/Power Metal release full of melodies, keyboards and happy choruses. Windfall were a surprise for me as I pressed the play button and there I was... Standing against Windfall's all out attack!
Windfall were formed back in July 1999 by members of Hatred and Nemesis. The result was a mini-CD release, Crystallized (1999). Steel Gallery Records signed them immediately and in October 2001 they released the album Adamantia. In 2002, Windfall went through some lineup changes and their sound became more dark and heavy than before. Having this formation, they signed a contract with Sleaszy Rider Records and also released Time Of The Haunted (2003). In 2004, the lineup changed for one more time (pretty tiring, huh?). The last lineup change that I know of was in November 2005 when Costas Giannikopoulos and Stelios Koslidis left the band for personal reasons...
Greece is like a factory. This country keeps producing bands that keep rocking, although they almost never achieve following a good career. At least the bands seem to be more successful than Greek soccer teams. European soccer fans, you know what I mean...
Windfall were not what I expected to listen. I thought I was going to review a Heavy/Power Metal band with the usual melodies and overwhelming vocals. When I was listening to this album it was like a voice was coming out of the speakers telling me No way, dude! We're going to kick your ass, no matter what!. And that was it. They managed to attract my attention and made me spend much time for this review. This band has rhythm and they are heavy as hell! Infector consists of ten tracks full of power, aggression and hate. Devastating drumming, heavy guitars and clever bass lines. The singer is just not so brutal as he is trying to be... The record has a bit of a raw production, but that's what these songs need.
Something that impressed me was the talent that this band has. Windfall has mixed classic heavy melodies, Thrash Metal and modern elements such as some Hardcore fills. Sometimes they are like a more brutal version of Children Of Bodom.
An easy to listen to release that will not disappoint you. Not something that will become a precious gem in your CD collection but something that will not end up covered in dust, hanging around with spiders on it...
