Walkways - Bleed Out

As I was flipping this morning through Instagram, then that spying old Facebook, a curiosity caught my eye. A band called WALKWAYS who were ranked with the likes of DISTURBED, and many other bands. I had to listen because so many bands I click on really sound nothing like the named bands. But "Thoughts" catches my ear. The vocals are nothing I have ever heard. The guitars remind me a bit of chugging Nu-Metal, like THE DEFTONES or KORN's Munky. The drums are that Meridional sound and leave me thinking of TOOL.

Another single "Bleed Out, Heal Out," rings more true to SEVENDUST than previous bands. The highlights of tone simply ring true. The long strums of the guitars create a parallel to the band, and yes, to even Morgan Rose's drumming style. The vocals again are very diverse and spread the melody throughout like jelly on a PBJ sandwich. It's a pretty damn smooth song that reminds me of the band from my younger ears.

"Actions" is a tune from their first album "Safe In Sound," and I swear to God it reminds of SNOT. The vocals remind me of a young Lynn Strait doing what he loved. The guitar strands are vibing with those California punkers. It is a fast and hard just like "Thoughts-Live". But instead of Lynn Strait you get parts of Dez Fafara. Now what a song that would have made. Those Egyptian guitar riffs of Meggs and the clean vocals of "Chamber Music".  I know, I know, it was an awful album with some hidden jewels. I didn't like "Shock The Monkey".  But the song ends sounding like a young Phil Anselmo.

The band feels like a complete throwback to the 90's with other songs and even a "Live Sessions" album. The songs are freaking amazing. "Out-Live" is a dark masterpiece. If you haven't heard the album, I must be under a rock somewhere. "Blood Into Water" is a beautiful conversation meant to be heard. The soft overtures of the guitar have the sound of THE DEFTONES once more but the vocals are a bit more exceptional. The harmonies flow smoothly as the transits. It just relaxes you and leaves you with beautiful movies of your life in your brain. Twisted I know, but I will leave you to make the comparison here.

"Bleed Out, Heal Out" releases June 14, but you can stream some goodies on Spotify. Yes, I still love my Spotify, even though I still hate a lot of things. At least life still gives us great music to listen to, even if we have to look for it. This band from Tel-Aviv, Israel has some chops, and I am kinda wondering how they've escaped a beheading. This is not what you would expect from a band from this area at all. It only goes to show how much impact Metal music has there. Astonishing Fact.
