The Royal - Deathwatch album cover

THE ROYAL was formed in late 2012 out of Eindhoven, Netherlands. This band is absolutely a force to be reckoned with. The intricacies and just pure unrelenting music they shell out is amazing. When I requested this band I had no idea what I was getting into. There are several songs that left me awestruck and I am super excited to tell you all about the masterpiece which is "Deathwatch"!

Let's begin with the first song on the album "Pariah". This song is absolutely explosive and kicks off the album perfectly. If you are a fan of AS I LAY DYING and PARKWAY DRIVE you will love this. The vocals provided by Semuel Pisarahu are insanely good. He has it all when it comes to this style of metal. The guitars played by JD Liefting and Pim Wesselink are brilliant! And the breakdown on this track was kick ass!

The second track "Savages" comes in like a barrage of missile attacks to your face. This song is written amazingly and laid out perfectly. The drummer Tom Van Ekerschot throws the fuck down with the best of them as does the bassist Youri Keulers. "State of Dominance" is the third track up and it doesn't disappoint in the slightest. You will be left wanting to throw down wherever you are and I recommend doing so. This is pure headbanging material.

"Soul Sleeper" is one of my favorite songs on the album. The guitar work on this song is phenomenal and has the best sides of melody and brutality. The vocals honestly take the cake though. Semuel killed it on this track. The song "Deathwatch" is by far the best song on the album though. I have listened to this song at least thirty times in the past few days. It is fucking astonishing and I think you all will love this song as much as I do. All I really have to say is the chorus is filthy as fuck. The band put their all into this one in my opinion. There isn't one bad thing I have to say about this entire album. "Exodus Black" is a fucking banger if I have ever heard one. This song is mostly like one continuous breakdown that throws a bit of melody into it. This song is so grimy it's like taking a bath in the sewer and using a rat carrying the black plague as a wash cloth. I don't know how many times I said GOD DAMN while listening to this one.

"Nine For Hell" just brings it all out and is one of the heaviest songs on the album. For the four minutes it was on I was banging my head. This is one of the most beautifully written Metalcore songs I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. "Lone Wolf" has a very nice melodic intro which quickly turns into sheer brutality. In my opinion this was a great addition to the album.

"Avalon" is a damn good song. This is one song I would shy away from the pit if I was to see them live. If I had to describe this song using two words they would be "Fucking Incredible". The final song on the album is "Glitch" and it was worth the wait. A very fit ending to such an amazing album. On a scale of one to one hundred id give this album a one hundred. I demand you buy this as soon as you can. Not only will you be doing yourself a favor, but this band deserves your support!
