Of Blood and Wine
The Necromancers

Presenting to you stoner rock outfit THE NECROMANCERS' latest album, "Of Blood and Wine" - the album is a six-track, 44-minute long offering of mixed doom and rock n' roll. Having said that, you'd know what to expect, and you might have already imagined it right. Although the album only has six songs, it reached almost three-fourths of an hour play time because the tracks are oddly long. Although the shortest track is only almost three minutes long, all the others are above five and a half minutes - the longest being nearly thirteen minutes long.
Like any other stoner acts, the album is filled with low-key riffs, catching the balance between sinister and melodic making each tune catchy. The bass lines are also made beefy to make a solid bedrock in the overall sound. The drumming is textbook based doom style - hard-hitting while keeping a control not to overdo it. The vocals here is perfectly fit with the sound they establish, its sound and the style of execution is exactly what the band needs to perfectly blend with the instruments - a raspy voice with a bit of resemblance of Zakk Wylde.
The only downside I can say in this album is that the songs are too lengthy with a very minimal change of pace and mood, just see "Lust". Although there had been a rise in intensity in the middle of the song, that's all the shifts the song had to offer. On the other side is "Secular Lord" which is easily the best song in the album. The riffs are catchy and energetic right from the start, short guitar-drum breaks make up the shiftiness and adrenaline in the song. On an average standpoint, "Of Blood and Wine" make a good example of stoner rock music. However, it's not one you will use to introduce a friend of yours to the genre - but that's not a big deal, stoner rock is not for everyone anyway. The thing is, if you can't get along with it in just one sitting, it's not for you.
