Though this wasn't a blow beneath the belt, I wasn't expecting this. Nevertheless, I have to admit that it was very funny. Right from the first lyrical verse I was sure that these guys did it it for real, meaning that they intended to do stuff that will make you grimace and even laugh at yourself. This is the American heart, mind and soul, THE KMX BAND. Soon these guys will be releasing another hilarious prank with the name "American Soul". So, this review is not about this album, it regards a promo release of that upcoming, which was given the same name.

When I heard these guys' music and lyrics, I was startled at first. Only after the second listen I truly grasped what was done here. The overall musical concept on "American Soul" came to the band's favor on this release. THE KMX BAND used a nice mix of weird Hard Rock & Metal in the veins of BLACK SABBATH, SISTERS OF MERCY and ANTHRAX (more of the "Attack Of The Killer A's" type) added by a humorous nonsense for themes. Most of their stuff sounds like a bunch of people making laughs on things they like or like to laugh about. Maybe one song, even as laughable as it can be, has some pure logic sense in to it and that is "Robotron 2084", which talks about the human race being dominated by its own creations. In addition, the demo version of "The Children Can't Read" is yet another moral lesson of society's illiteracy. Other that these two moral lessons, everything is just for kicks.

Whether these guys were serious or not, I had a hard time to like their music. Its not that I don't like basic compositions, it's because the music is not that interesting. I don't mind the shifts between musical genres at all, I actually kind of like it. However, I have to rule out that many things are missing. First, the production, which sound too home like project. There are various of issues on the mix that should be rechecked once again. Secondly, I don't know if those tracks, aside from the demo, are complete versions, but if they do, there is a lack of creativity. Even humorous tunes can be musically intelligent, take NANOWAR for example. To summarize, I was impressed by the silly "Jazz" tune, especially the shrike high-pitch vocals of Farful, and the heavier "Robotron 2084" but other than those, THE KMX BAND should take their music just a bit more seriously than their lyrics in order to enhance their levels. Let's hope that they did it for the upcoming album.
