Seven Heads Ten Horns
The Foreshadowing
What's up, Metal maniacs? I'm here once again to give you an insight on this Italian Gothic/Doom Metal quintet, unleashing their 4th album: "Seven Heads Ten Horns" via Cyclone Empire Records.
What better combination than Gothic ambience and Doom Metal into one neat package? THE FORESHADOWING effortlessly fuses this brilliance and has created excellency in this consistently driven release. The band is in their prime with 4 albums in their discography; and an extensive amount of fans at their disposal. "Seven Heads Ten Horns" is a very interesting album that has a vision of top-quality music that helps get you in the mood for some Doom Metal intrigues while fusing the ambience of the Gothic realm as well. 9 long songs await you - unless you have already visited and just want to know my opinion of course, and see if it collides with yours. Doom Metal vastly has grown on me throughout the years and I enjoy it every time; for the sheer basis of its Doomy atmosphere, and for the crushing power (for most bands I have discovered) that embodies into my being for a nice melodic headbang session.
Marco I. Benevento on vocals is not exactly strange, but a perfect contribution to the genre in question. Sure, Marco only has one range most of the time throughout the entire album, but it certainly does suit the matching genres for that combine factor. Alessandro Pace and Andrea Chiodetti on their guitars certainly match the said genres as well; as does Francesco Sosto on the keyboards and additional backing vocals, and the powerful duo: Francesco Giulianelli on bass and Jonah Padella on drums, make this a powerhouse that show true skill and passion in their career's so far. So the existence of gothic ambience and Doom-fused intrigues compel you for my view on "Seven Heads Ten Horns"? Well then, strap yourselves in and brace yourselves, as not only does this record sound utterly fascinating, but also sounds near perfect for a Doom Metal focus. Fantastic riffs and a gloomy atmosphere await you...
As I begin "Ishtar", I hear an introduction that will ascend into "Fall of Heroes"; already I have compelled myself into a metallic realm of destroyed existence, and so the musical opinion of mine comes in: the music is fascinating to say the least and really fits the mood for this Gothic/Doomy contrast. "Two Horizons", "New Babylon" and "Lost Soldiers" transpire this mood in a lot more and just has a brutal sound to it on top. I think the vocals all-round need to showcase a lesser-toned vibrancy; to fit this elegance a lot more nicely, so when you first listen, I hope you know what I mean there. "17", "Until We Fall" and "Martyrdom" all showcase similarities but evidently have profound skill in making this record a superior Doom Metal montage to the genre. And then the finale: "Nimrod" which is a 15 minute epic of great proportions; noteworthy is the Doomy but pounding riff halfway-to near the ending of the album, and just the epic vibrancy as well. Glorious.
Bottom line... THE FORESHADOWING's "Seven Heads Ten Horns" is a nice spectacle in the Doom Metal genre; all 9 songs showcase some fantastic melodies while implementing the gothic ambience into one being with Doom Metal, it truly is a nice combination of musicianship and Excellency. Songwriting, memorability, originality and sound production all deserve a high score; and I can only commend this group for their hard work and determination on this here album, and while it's a noble enough endeavor...the Metal fans should at least listen to this record once and take a piece of the action for yourself. I had a helluva time jamming "Seven Heads Ten Horns" that the album seemed to zoom by very quickly; just goes to show that I was not bored at all really! So for Metal's sake; take the plunge and just take the leap into this atmospheric masterpiece, and prepare...for some DOOM.
