In the music scene, you can have attitude that helps make something cliché, but at the same time, makes something new. The Traditional Heavy Metal genre has a lot of bands making many different sounds without losing their own band's roots. I'm here today to discuss with you all a Norwegian band called THE CARBURETORS that are a prime example of using this formula in their music. They're releasing their fifth album called "Laughing In The Face Of Death" by SPV/Steamhammer Records. The artwork is eye-catching, and was done by Jan Yrlund who easily reached his goal that are to recover the pretty artworks from 19 80's with the modern technology.
The line-up is very talented and competent within their focus. They're making simple songs with simple notes and with only this, they're making an excellent work and showing to us they're above the average compared to the other musicians. You can listen refined techniques in guitars and double-bass driven drums here and there, and a bass making this album work. I think the weakest link in this chain is the singer, Eddie Guz. With a raw vocal stlye in the beginning you feel upset with his voice. With this talent in the instrumental field they could get someone with more of a vocal range and melodic tone to sing their vocals.
About the songs, here is where you will find a huge range of styles in "Laughing In The Face of Death". Since the Traditional Heavy Metal, passing by guitar riffs that remind us of JOE SATRIANI in "Hellfire" with a Punk Rock style. In "Bullet" or "Shot Full of Noise" we get riffs that remind us of MEGADETH. On "Lords Of Thunder", there is a massive killer intro in drums. In "Water into Wine", the listener will find a faster-paced song that catch you since the first second. The lyrics are the same cliché: Metal and things its relates to. All the songs are very commercial. With less than 4 minutes and catchy choruses that makes you sing it all during the entire day.
If you mast to discover a talent band with excellent line-up in there, listen "Laughing In The Face Of Death", and don't forget to support the band buying their album. They're honoring classic, traditional, cliche breed of Heavy Metal.
