Metal core has seemed to be dominating the modern music of the 21st century, as more and more bands have adapted this scented genre, which is growing increasingly. With this outbreak, it's even harder to tell the bands apart within this category as there are no boundaries breaking, however Ontario's TAKE THE THRONE has established a clear polished tone. Still victims of falling under the trap of being compared to bands like AUGUST BURNS RED and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, it's more common to compare bands than set them apart.

So what set's their recent release of "Guardian" apart from the other generic bands out there? Introducing us to this eight tracked EP, a cleverly names title of "Intro" essentially an intro into their sound, as the tempted beat builds into the next track "Ghosts Ft. Fred Beaulieu of Beheading Of A King". Yet this track seems to have entwined the intro for major effect. The constant crushing and banging that has been conferred within it's riffs, pull you in as the track changes directions all the time.

Saying this, there are no clear distinguishing ranges within the vocal chords as to a significant tone that separates Landon Smallwood's voice from others, despite his clear talent and ability to master a solid scream, you've got to give the guy credit for his this.

What really matters here, is their progression in sound as a band, which is clearly marked as a bumpy ride. From an earlier release of "Legacy", an obvious power in vocal pitching has become apparent. For the much greater good, "Guardian" just proves massively how the band have matured in their sound to present a well recorded EP.

A heavily melodic influence is captured as "The Void" chucks in thrashing breakdown of guitar chugs which would be an absolute beast to play live. Definitely a song that you could "lose your shit to" everything flows in the right direction.

Drifting towards a heavier tone, the quintet have found their sound among most other bands, there is a strong market for them, even if it's been done before, TAKE THE THRONE do it even better.
