What you are about to listen to is a masterpiece, a piece of art displayed in a gallery, a view off the Grand Canyon, the deep blue sea as it washes over your toes in the early morning as you watch the sunset. If these things were sounds, they would create SUMIA'S new album "Until We Shine Again". As I know many people do, If you love DEFTONES, then you are going to have a good time.
Each song seems as if they put their souls into crafting it. "One Single Look", "Ghost (The Healer)", and "Otus" are prime examples of pure talent not only in musical mechanics, but also theory and song creation. I hear influences of DEFTONES in Jonni's voice, TOOL in the work from the guitarists and Oli on drums, it's almost perfect. The album is mostly consisted of soft guitar work with technical drum scores overlaying the music, yet the songs will kick in and sound so incredibly epic that it's unreal. I would have to say my highlight to their new record is definitely their penultimate song "The Crystal Plane". The song is heavy, soft, manic, beautiful, a cluster fuck of brilliance! Normally when a band produces a seven minute+ song I am often sceptical as of to how it will sound as they normally drag out too long and become boring, yet this time, it was the perfect end to a brilliant album. So many different parts all coming together to make one song and it finishes in a way that makes you feel satisfied that you listened to the record in one sitting (trust me, it's worth doing).
It's not often I can find such a good album these days from newer bands. Sure bands that been around for some years can keep producing some high quality music, but it's rare that one can come out of the blue and throw something like this at you, I think I need to have a lie down and think about what I've listened too.
