Another Day, Another Squalor
Starcrazy
STARCRAZY is a L.A. Style Glam band, hailing from parts unknown. I was unsuccessful in finding any information on the band, save for a few sentences. "Another Day, Another Squalor" is their latest EP, and contains six songs. "Galaxy O' Luv" is the first. It's about what you might expect from a Glam Band...a sleazy riff and a vocalist who has some pipes. The sound is energetic and positive and they really turn it up in the chorus. "The Big Time" is a mid-tempo rocker with a great bass line. Let this song pump you up and get you ready for the day. "The Open Sea" is a slower, and groovier song, with great vocal harmonies. The guitar solo is not overdone either...we all know plenty of Glam bands who have a wanker for a guitarist LOL.
"Egging Me On" is a two-minute blast of energy, bordering on the Punk genre. With no solo and an abundance of energy, it screeches forward and leaves a burning trail behind. "Hysterical" has a groovy and sexy romp, again with a great bass line. The chorus is where most of the melody come in to play. The song turns dark after the second chorus, with a heavy bottom end grinding through you. "Monday Morning (Prayers for Tony)" closes the album. I was half expecting a power ballad, but what I got was a heavy groove, complete with rumbling bass notes and a high flying guitar solo. Like most Glam from the 1980's, and if you are old enough to remember like this guy was, the music is meant to energize you and pump you up. The album does a good job of that. Although I would have liked to have heard a few more songs, and the ones I did here were nothing new per se, it's an honest and genuine album.
