Sinisthra have managed to brake two of my records at once! They have one of the weirdest names and one of the weirdest titles for their debut work. OK I didn't ask them to name their debut Metal but come on! I have to write it down in order to remember it and even if I go to a store to buy their album I will probably make the shop owner lose his patience by trying to avoid anagrammatizing.
Sinisthra (previously known as Nevergreen) comes from Helsinki, Finland and they exist for five years. Last Of The Stories Of Long Past Glories is their debut album by Arise Records. According to their biography, the band members have been involved is several other bands such as Protected Illusion and Amorphis (really?).
Braking down the album's profile it is quite safe to describe it as a modern rock / atmospheric piece of work. I admit that I am a fan of the genre since it masters the ability to be easy listening without being common or boring. There are some references to acts like Amorphis or Sentenced, while the vocalist of the act also brings in mind the aforementioned bands. The bombastic production (the promo mentions this is an unmastered version, what?!) helps a lot. I liked a lot the songs Ice Cube Sun and To The One Far Away and I cannot complain that I got bored while listening the rest. As an album this one will satisfy the fans of the genre. Definitely an interesting debut.
