Three years in the making, "Stasis" is the third studio album from the Maldivian guitar virtuoso. The album contains seven songs, and a few different guests. The songs are simple one-word titles. "Catharsis" is the first. Opening with piano notes leading to a chugging rhythm in the guitars, the mood created is somewhat somber and ominous. The lead parts are very well done, following the melody line and throwing in some six-string pyro as well.

"Paradox" throws in some electronic elements to the base of chugging guitars. Shahyd goes back to the leads and leaves the fretboard smoking from his finger movements. The melodies are tasty enough to hum along with. "Stasis" is a period of inactivity or equilibrium. The song however is anything but static. It rumbles forward with purpose and flows nicely from end to end. Again, the lead work is excellent. He has a keen sense of melody and how to develop it. "Elysian" features Daniel Bautista; an accomplished axe-grinder. I am not sure who is doing the leads here, but I am assuming it is Daniel, and he creates fire from his fretwork. The song has a mellow backdrop of piano and guitars.

"Reverie" is a little quicker in pace, but has a similar sound to some of the previous tracks. The heavy rhythms underneath play second fiddle to the dexterous lead guitar work...arpeggios, straight picking, legato sections...all these elements are present and done tastefully. "Stellify" features Keiran Johnston. The leads get rolling almost immediately in this fast-paced song, and they are fantastic. "Ethereal" closes the album. It features another dark sound in the rhythms and some light out of the leads. The song does have a bit of an ethereal quality to it, especially in the harmonies of the guitar work.

Shayhd is a very well accomplished guitarist, but this doesn't mean he know how to write good music. In this case, he does both, although the performance does best the compositions. He relies just a bit too much on open notes as the base for a lot of the songs, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but venturing out a bit in the rhythms could make the songs more dynamic. The real showcase on the album is his skill on the guitar, and he does bring it.
