Hailing from Brazil, PHRENESY, have been rocking since 2003. Almost twenty years later, they are finally announcing the release of their second album, "Fears Apocalypse". Their first album, "The Power Comes from Beer," describes their second focus in life, the cerveza. It is something that has gone hand in hand with Thrash Metal since the beginning. They are firm believers that good music, friends, and alcohol keeps them all united as one. Not forgetting the political problems that we all have to deal with, they verbally release their frustrations through their art and drink beer.
A five-piece band with dueling guitars, they have given us ten tracks on this one. Four of the songs have guest guitarists that do their own thing and add their own influence on the total package. Rodrigo Shakal, Felipe Chendes, Sara Abreu, Marco Mendes all make a special showing. An impressive nine musicians have come together here to celebrate Brazilian Metal.
Starting out with sirens blaring and followed up with a nice riff, they get right down to business. DEATH ANGEL comes to mind first when I try to find a comparison to what I hear. I would say the title track, "Fears Apocalypse," is a good start and gives me high hopes for things to come. It is your typical prototype Thrash song. A solid beginning.
"Bring It On" does just that. A banger. Followed up with "Fuck the Pain," the beating continues. None of the first three songs sound alike, all stand-alone so far, that is always good. I'm really digging this review and we have only scratched the surface. All of the musicians are on point and showing out.
It is fast. No ballads here, just full speed ahead through the first five and continuing until we get to number ten. I can tell these guys put on one hell of a live show, I would give them my money. "My Hate Is Going to Speak for Me," has a lot to say. It is a good one for stress relief. Followed up with "The Party Won't Stop," it doesn't. It all leads up to the final track, "War for Beer," the only good reason. It all makes for a great time, something that everyone involved can be proud of.
