Omegalord - Hammer Down album cover

Don't say yeah, say hell yeah! I did a big mistake by trying to listen to this album for the first time after having a couple of beers. The outcome was to spill the last beer I was holding. Holding things and headbanging at the same time doesn't work out at all. Hammer Down has to be one of the heaviest albums I have heard during the last months. No kidding guys! Omegalord makes lots of bands claiming to be playing Heavy Metal run and hide in shame.
The band was formed in late 2001, in the Philadelphia area. Omegalord's current lineup is comprised of seasoned musicians that have played in various known bands over the course of their musical careers including Insatanity, Bad Wizard, Obomatic, The Narcoleptics, Psyclone Rangers, Punch Drunk, and Bettie Whitetrash. Since 2001 the band has released two EP's, one in 2002 and another one in 2004. Hammer Down is their debut full-length release by Airport Circle Records.
The name of the game is Stoner Metal. Those who love bands like Orange Goblin or ATP will instantly fall in love with this gem. From the exploding kick-start Skull Bong the band delivers raw, powerful Stoner Metal with a shinny production and a demolishing rhythm section. I know that most Stoner bands are known for their rhythm section. But in the case of Omegalord you must listen to it just to believe it! The Reverend is a very cool bearded dude (hmm...) bringing in mind a lot of Ben Ward (Orange Goblin). The guitar combo of J. Sun and Deebo is outstanding while the wall or rhythms delivered by Chauncy (Bass) and Race (Drums) is...damn!
I wonder if they can sound heavier than that. Hammer Down was indeed a wonderful surprise by an indy band. In conclusion I strongly believe that it is only a matter of time before a major label discovers this act. Fans of Heavy Metal (with the a capital H) what are you waiting for? Check this out now!
