NOW IN COLOUR is a three piece Progressive Rock band from Sydney, Australia. Founded by guitarist/singer Niko, bassist Jeaux and drummer/percussionist Jasper in late 2017, their first self-titled album "Now In Colour" was released on March 15, 2019. The album contains eight tracks.

"Love, Don't Fail Me Now" opens with a steady cadence of acoustic guitars and the dexterous drumming of Jasper. As easy-listening but dark sound progresses, with the soft and gentle vocals of Niko. They turn up the emotions in the chorus, where Niko really stretches out. Subtle keyboards and what sounds like a flute cap off this wonderful song, with skilled musicianship. "Manifest Destiny" opens with a bit of a heavier sound. Pretty pain notes compliment the sound so nicely. The delicate melodies have a way of making you feel alive. It ends in an extended instrumental passage with ominous tones. "Drift" is just over three minutes long. What a pleasant entrance it has...charming guitar notes, the perfect application of bass guitar and drums, and melodic vocal harmonies screaming silently with yearning. I'm getting a SUBSIGNAL or KING's X vibe here, at least with their softer songs. I don't think I've heard a song this pretty yet this year.

"Seafoam" opens with alluring piano notes and a sound full of despondent yet hopeful melodies. The vocals are like a whisper being carried on a breeze, and keys provide layers here. The guitar solo is absolutely perfect...following the melody line as it progresses. "The Hourglass" is a speedier song out of the gates, buzzing with strummed guitars and a sense of energy not felt in earlier tracks. The chorus reads "as we walked from the station floating carefree and weightless, I'll remember that moment for the rest of my life, I barely closed my eyes and it was over, but still it echoes." "Foregone Conclusion" has a heavier riff and a bit more solemn sound. The vocals are mellow but turn with a rugged constitution in the chorus. The harsh vocals come as quite a surprise, but fit well with the lyrical content about giving into anger.

"The Thaw" is a peaceful song about trying to reach out in love but feeling the icy touch of ignorance and disregard. The juxtaposition of the music and the lyrics are striking here. Vocally, it reminds me of the softer side of VOLA. "Yeti" is a near-eleven minute closer. It opens with delicate guitar notes and smooth, mellow vocals. It slowly starts gaining momentum, with bright lead guitar notes, and depth of character. It waxes and wanes, building moments of grandeur along with subtleties that are stunningly beautiful in the most delicate of ways. The closing lyrics are quite poignant... "everything I've said, everything I've done pales in comparison to the things I've been running from...now obsolescence is twisting the knife, purpose has left you just waiting to die, but damaged as you are you still matter."

Substance and character are two words I would use to describe the album. The songwriting is impeccable and they pay attention to things that matter, building compositions with strength and constitution that are absolutely gorgeous in their application. How this very obscure (a total of 50 fans on Facebook?) album passed 99% of you by proves once again that style and personality matter in the veritable sea of band out there trying to make their mark. "Now In Colour" have made an indelible mark on me.
