The new album will be issued - apart from the normal CD format - in two special 'bonus tracks' CD formats plus a 12-inch vinyl (as each and every one of their releases). MUNICIPAL WASTE is a band that cares for both new and old-school fans, right? And, most of all, The Art Of Partying is an album that will definitely maintain - if not push even forward - the American Thrash/Crossover act's name. Born To Party says it all, you know.
Thrash Is My Business...And Business Is Good is one of the two bonus tracks in The Art Of Partying and, just judging from the title, you can see what MUNICIPAL WASTE is still up to in year 2007. Even if 2005's Hazardous Mutation featured enough of enthusiasm and killing grooves/rhythms, I was not so eager to believe that the quarter would come up with an even better album. Well, the truth is that - not obvious from the very first audition(s) - MUNICIPAL WASTE did achieve to release an effort that is slightly different. Meaning: the band always balanced between D.R.I., the Bay Area-influenced Thrash 'path' with enough of SACRED REICH or ATROPHY parts, while referring to the Crossover/Hardcore likes with much of respect. This time, in The Art Of Partying, MUNICIPAL WASTE seems to focus a little bit more on the CO/HC side. Hell yeah, the band still performs some ass-kicking Thrash Metal music but - on conclusion - the tracklist will be equally appealing to HC fans, I guess. And - do not forget - the title suits fine; now, let's party!
Fifteen tracks - the normal 'case' - with lots of blast and energy to accompany your Thrash Metal party till you puke. Small - in duration - tracks with tons of riffs, bridges and grooves, always focusing on the American 'antisocial' side of Thrash music. The songwriting approach is definitely in the 80s vein, but MUNICIPAL WASTE do not forget how to attract newer fans, too. Hence, much of the album's parts will be adorable by fans of post-80s HC music. Not omitting the fact that the band does know how to play music, it is essential to write that they do not tend to over-do it in terms of technique, plus the appropriate production does give a strong helping hand.
D.R.I.: yes, the Houston. TX legends is the band that can definitely act as the top 'icon' for MUNICIPAL WASTE. Plus, if you did enjoy Hazardous Mutation two years ago, there's no way The Art Of Partying will let you down. Never! Like in Hazardous Mutation, the cover by Ed Repka in this album will bring you to your knees totally drunk!
