MEKONG DELTA is a German band formed in 1985 by Ralf Hubert, sound-engineer of WARLOCK, STEELER and LIVING DEATH, and owner of the record label Aaarrg, originally Hubert wasn't going be part of the band but the original bass player left and so he took bass duties, becoming the sole constant member in the history of the band.
This band is unique as it intends to combine the aggressiveness of Thrash with the complexities of Progressive Metal, this is a great combination and when it works it makes for a great record... however, this is not the case here.
The greatest difficulty on making a Thrash / Prog hybrid is usually the Prog side and how to prevent from not being too tedious and not border on pretentiousness, unfortunately this was exactly what happened here... this is a very tiresome record, sure the album has those change of tempo and everything that makes a good progressive metal song, but here they are devoid of any particular significance or relevance, there is no reason for you to care about what these songs mean.
When it works the Thrash and Prog combination make for a great record, but lovers of this genre won't find here the kind of record they yearn for, I suggest you look elsewhere, at least for this time around when it comes to MEKONG DELTA.
