The Edge Of Infinity

Switzerland's main music export music product has always been Krokus. On second basis, extreme Metal pioneers Celtic Frost and big Hard rockers Gotthard would be the next most recognizable acts. Now, if and when female-fronted metallers Lunatica will be able to overlap the previous band's reputation - not Krokus' of course - is a good issue to deal with. Not much of a chance, many will fast enough articulate but - as pre-said - Lunatica are 'female-fronted' and we all know what women can do in our world...
This is the third studio album from this Swiss quintet. Lunatica breathe life for more than eight years now. With Alex Seiberl and Sandro D'Incau as the main composing duo, the supreme beauty of Andrea stepped in to record the vocals for the band's debut effort, Atlanits (Nuclear Blast, 2001). Even if this was a very good album in the Symphonic/Ethereal Metal 'field', it seems it was not much of success; hence Nuclear Blast let the band loose in search of a new label. 2004's Fables & Dreams saw the band recording for Italy's Frontiers Records (a rather extreme move for such an AOR/Melodic Rock orientated label). A nice album featuring suitable narrations and fine orchestral parts, Fables & Dreams gave the band another shot of musical quality. Still, the crucial (for many) 'third album' did not see the light of day until this time we're now speaking. The Edge Of Infinity is the band's brand new album and...
...it is again proved that Lunatica is not the 'average' female-fronted Symphonic Metal band. This album surely is their finest work to date, mainly 'cause it deals with many areas of melodic music. Various grooves, majestic keyboard appearance, charismatic vocals by Andrea (whose voice I could describe as a mix of Candice Night, Epica's Simone Simons and the Evanescence singer whose name I'll never remember) and fitting guitar harmonies. Nothing complex, nothing groundbreaking but beauty is - in any way - quite simple and ample.
No tunes are more special than the rest so as to receive some particular report. Acclaimed producers Sascha Paeth and Miro (Kamelot, Rhapsody, Angra) have given the album an apt 'taste', while Dieter Meier - singer of the legendary Swiss electronic masters Yello - agreed to be the album's storyteller and German singer Oliver Hartmann (ex- At Vance) joins Andrea for a duet on the song EmOcean. You like women in 'ethereal' Metal? Grab it. You don't? Don't. Simple it is...
