Hailing from Germany, INFESTING SWARM, is a Post Black Metal band with elements that lead to Death Metal and Blackened Death Metal. The band was born in 2007 with the name chosen to reflect the demons that haunt the inner mind and spirit. After a few lineup changes, INFESTING SWARM released their self-titled demo in 2011 and are back now with their first full length album "Desolation Road". The album comes in with eight tracks at a hefty 58 minutes.
Track one "Dead Transmission" is a legit intro into the album that us consumed with a bit of black noise triumphed by acoustic pickings. The transition to track two "Ending" is an instant turn from soft to hard. It's like a light switched gets turned from one to the other. However, the writing between the two shows an immense amount of musicianship and creativity. "Ending" has two sounds. There is the softer melodic feel and there is the harder melodic feel. This track is balanced by the need for heavy and soft. That is what makes this track flawlessly written.
"Desolation Road's" eleven-minute masterpiece "Desperation" is a gloriously written track that has so many elements mixed in a perfectly written piece that permits differing feelings and thoughts through the entirety of the track. This is a track that has to be listened to multiple times to catch each and every piece of perfection implemented into the track.
Track four "Year of No Light" is another just brilliantly written track. There is so much melody flowing through it that it is hard to just consider these guys Post Black Metal. There is a definite fusion of Metals that will leave most Metalheads pleased and rearing for more.
"Abandoned Life", track five, is one another really great track. Anyone see a pattern here, because I do. This track also is riddled with so many great elements that leave the listener wanting to more.
Each track riddled with Black and Melodic Metals meshing perfectly into a brilliantly written debut full-length album. The low growls of the vocals and the rich bass line marked in great pleasure by the drums blast beats gives the album life, and the guitars take "Desolation Road" to a different level. The Metal-ness that is exploited in this album is creative, skillfully written, and an album that shows incredible musicianship.
