Taken from the band self-description history the band HOGAN'S GOAT was named after a tale from Scottish folklore, the band originally formed in late 2014. As the story goes, a farmer (Hogan) owned a goat rumored to have an odor said to travel thousands away. The goat's been described as having patchy fur, an eye out of socket, and flies abound. For the band, this perfectly symbolized their unorthodox style, which is anything but unnoticeable. The formers John Salmon (Vocals), Thomas Banks (Guitar), Donovan Bettise (Guitar), Aaron Stoner (Bass) and Wayne Michel (Drums) bring to you a wild and direct wild Heavy Rock directly from the 80's but with a lot of modern touches.

The debut album leaves a great impression, a good production and an excellent mix with some dirty touches characteristic of the style are one of the highlights. As well as the good variation between the tracks causing the disc to be diversified resulting in a good play. When some band of any genre decides to relive a sound of the past there is the way of the copy and the way of improvement, in this case I can assure that the debut of the band chose the second even with the presence of some clichés during the listening sensation is of a truly revitalized sound.

"Rat Boy" starts the album that bears the same name as the band. A broken guitar sound followed by a groove drums and a clean vocal with very expressive nuances. The presence of a solo at the end of the song followed in conjunction with the splash cymbals is really a highlight to enjoy. "Over the Palisade" is able to split extremely well passages of much aggression and anger and others slowing down while "Pennymade" abuses the effects in a good way. Does the reader remember when I mentioned the use of clichés in the construction of rhythms? "If I'm Dead" is where we find their greatest presence, and curiously is my favorite track of the album, an impressive and exciting chorus, plus an incredible solo combining with drum fills really bring brilliance to this work.

"Jack & Jill" demonstrates the power of Salmon to modifying timbre, intonation, and kind of voice with the addition of several different effects becoming a single track. "Drinkin 'with the Priest" ends the job honestly. HOGAN'S GOAT started with the right foot, the compositions are well fitted, the lyrics are really cool and the band manages to deliver what they set out to do. There is only a little more personality to improve, but the path certainly is right.
