Compelling symphonic mayhem, breakneck tempos, impeccable growls and operatic vocals... Can you guess the band? Indeed! FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE. After the release of "Elegy" a while ago, two vehemently-conflicting opinions emerged. While many seem very excited about the upcoming album, there are those who just stand "Agony" because of the overused blast beats, tremolo guitar picking and especially the overpowering orchestration making guitars nearly inaudible. This latter stream of opinions still crave something more like "Oracles" and "Mafia" and does not seem to be happy about "Elegy", being pretty much the same thing as the previous album. However, "Labyrinth" is actually a compilation of the band's best musical feats with "the best production [they've] ever had" as stated by the band themselves.

Once the album kicks off, you'll immediately get caught into a labyrinth for about fifty four minutes. More soundscape than usual, the incredibly immense vortex of sound swallows you, ruthlessly hits you and smashes your ears with an unprecedented ferocity. The band's musicianship is topnotch as usual, that's undeniable and it's something they will always get credit for even from those who despise their music. The drumming beast Francesco Paoli will keep blowing your mind. The lead vocals are awe inspiring, complemented by soaring soprano and falsetto vocals. The orchestral arrangements and the keyboards are so overwhelming and leave no room for your ears to breathe, albeit perfectly done, much to the enjoyment of symphony fans.  The guitar solos are dexterous, yet the overall guitar sound is still quite buried in mix within the heavily-symphonic atmosphere. Still, compared to "Agony", "Labyrinth" is a great move forward towards a more characteristic yet neater sound of the band, with more pronounced riffs and a more solid songwriting.

This album is an apocalyptic Symphonic Death Metal frenzy making FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE arguably one of the most extreme bands out there. Regarding the band's intriguing visual aspect, the album is clad in a fittingly nice-looking artwork which only contributes to its great appeal.
